医学誌 Lancet のエディトリアル

先週金曜日10月4日受けの医学誌 Lancet に "The far-right and health: an evolving political crisis" と題するエディトリアルが掲載されています。まず、Lancet とは、私のような専門外のエコノミストでも知っている医学誌であり、以下の4誌が世界的にも最も有名な医学誌です。

• New England Journal of Medicine
• JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association)
• BMJ (British Medical Journal)

その Lancet が「極右と健康」と題するエディトリアルを掲載しているわけです。pdfでもアップロードされてあり、わずかに1ページなのですが、最初の2センテンスだけ引用すると下の通りです。

The far-right and health: an evolving political crisis
Across Europe and North America, racism, xenophobia, and far-right nationalism have become normalised in public and political discourse, leading many people to feel anxiety and fear of violence, discrimination, and hatred. This developing political crisis is having a pervasive and devastating impact on the health and wellbeing of health workers and scientists, as well as the general population.

そして、最後のパラの2センテンス目は "We must take a stand against racism and prejudice." となっています。最後のパラの最後は "opposing the normalisation of racism and discrimination in political discourse, lead anti-racist activism, and make equity a defining goal of their mission." で締めくくられています。
もちろん、Lancet は医学誌であり、医療に携わる人びとを読者に想定していますが、私はエコノミストながら、このエディトリアルでいっている "We" に入れて欲しいと願っています。私も暴力、差別、ヘイトには強く反対しています。

新しく選ばれた自民党の新総裁が極右の方針を持って政治や行政に臨まないことを願っています。
